Kitchen Renovation Part 2

Even though Justin said he wanted to wait a while before starting the second phase of our kitchen renovation, I knew it wouldn't take long before he would start itching for a weekend project. Since the baby's nursery wasn't enough to keep him busy, Justin has spent the past three weekends working endlessly on our kitchen.

He started out by removing the old kitchen counter top.

With his little boy growing inside of me, Justin wouldn't let me lift a finger to help...not that I'm complaining. He wrestled that counter top out in one piece all by himself.

He raised the cabinet above the stove to make room for our new microwave/range hood. I LOVE our new appliances.

We decided to go with granite tile counter tops. This demanded lots of cuts and precise measuring. He looks like a pro, doesn't he?

Here he is grouting the tile.

With the granite tile we had left over, we were able to take it back and exchange it for tile to use as a back splash. I thought we would have to wait a while on that but we got lucky with the exchange.

Poor baby...Justin looks like he has just crawled out of bed. At this point, I'm sure he's just ready to finish up so he can get a home cooked meal.

All his hard work sure paid off. I couldn't be happier with the results!

My mother-in-law gave us the butcher block island. It gives me so much more space to work with. I love it! Thanks Mrs. Marilyn!!

Just look at that granite shine!

I am so glad it's all behind us now and we can enjoy our new upgrades. If you ever feel like making a 500 mile drive, feel free to come on down and see it!!

Kitchen Renovation Part 1

Justin and I spent the majority of 2007 working on different DIY projects around our home. The kitchen has been by far the biggest project we have taken on. We are getting so close to finishing up. This is what all we have accomplished so far...
Justin started by removing the old flooring. Notice he is not wearing the proper attire for the job. Shoes would have prevented the nasty cut he got on his foot. He makes his own rules.
We decided to put down hardwood floors in the kitchen to warm things up. He's never done this before but you wouldn't know it watching him. What can I say, he's the master.
While Justin was installing the new floor, I was down in the garage painting all the cabinet doors. That's three coats front and back...all while sitting on a bucket.

Then Justin and I painted the cabinets. This was an oil based paint and we stayed high as kites for days. It was all worth it.

Justin added all new hardware to the cabinet doors.

After all that hard work and money spent, we decided to stop here and take a break for a while.

Next on the agenda is replacing the counter tops, appliances, and adding a back splash. Between the kitchen and baby's nursery, these past few weeks have been nonstop work around the Harrison house. My hardworking husband is finishing up on the final touches as we speak and I will be posting pictures of the new improvements very soon!

What Do Little Boys Need?

Justin and I went this past weekend to register for baby gifts. What an overwhelming experience that was! There was just so much STUFF! As first time parents, we are clueless as to what a baby really needs. We mainly just walked around the store scratching our heads and scanning things we thought might come in handy when our little boy arrives.
Here is Justin test driving one of the many strollers.

They gave us a check off list to guide us while we browsed. It wasn't much help and most of the items seemed so unnecessary.

Justin had the most fun in the toy section.

Ahh...this is nice! I think I'll let Justin finish up while I sit here.

Getting Ready for Baby

Once we found out we're expecting a boy, Justin and I couldn't wait to get started on his room.

What other color than Carolina blue for Justin's little boy's room??

The stripes are cute but such a headache to get right!! What was I thinking?

Once I finished painting the stripes, Justin installed chair railing around the room.

Here is daddy putting the crib together.

More pictures of the nursery to come!!

It's a BOY!

We're having a BOY!

Our Baby's Hearbeat

During this doctor's visit, Justin and I heard our baby's heartbeat for the first time. It was so reassuring to hear that little heart beating away!

Mama's Reaction

During a tea luncheon the Saturday before Christmas, I surprised my mom with the news that she is going to be a Grandma!

Mindy's Reaction

My sister, Mindy, was the first person we told about Baby Harrison. I surprised her with an early birthday present on Thanksgiving morning. Her reaction was priceless!!

Baby Boy Harrison

As most of you already know, Justin and I are expecting our first child this year. It's a little boy and he's due July 23, 2008. Here are a few of his ultrasound photos.

This is his profile...I think he favors his Mama :)

This is the bottom of his little feet. Too cute!!

It's a boy! The small white arrow proves it!
